Peter Clark, Divisional SHE Manager with Service Graphics Limited, a St. Ives Company, attended the IOSH Approved Coaching for safety course on 4th and 5th September 2013. A week later he wrote to me with the most extraordinary feedback. These are Peter’s words entirely.
“Since I finished your training course I’ve thought of little else. Now it’s sunk in, I genuinely believe it is the most important health and safety course I have taken and I have already applied coaching techniques with success in the workplace.
I was also interested in Helen’s issues. I considered what she was saying and that essentially, in her experience, it was unlikely that a manager would approach her for a coaching session to resolve an issue. I did hold some sympathy for her and can certainly see situations in which the coaching techniques we have begun to learn could be applied to overcome safety issues in the workplace that hadn’t previously been identified (i.e. by the coachee).
I thought about a model in which the approach needn’t necessarily be made by the coachee and one that didn’t necessarily end with the conclusion of the session.”
